Artis Introduces New Fluenta Brush Collection @ArtisBrush
Former MAC Cosmetics Executive Mathew Waitesmith recently launched a luxurious and super high tech brush collection. The shape of these brushes allows application to feel like using your fingers to give you superior control and flexibility. The elongated necks, aside from being artlike in appearance actually provide fluidity in applying the product.
Artis Fluenta brushes are composed of CosmeFibre with 250,000 individual fibres and they outperform standard brushes by being UV resistant, durable, and are resistant to chemicals found in makeup products. The best part is they are totally cruelty free!
The collection consists of 9 brushes ranging in price from $36 to $72, or $190 for the 5 piece set or $400 for the 9 piece collection.
The brushes are available at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Paula’s Choice 20th Anniversary Breakfast @PaulasChoice
A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be invited to a breakfast to celebrate Skincare guru’s Paula’s Choice 20 years in the business.
We were treated to a delicious breakfast at The Standard Hotel, in the Meatpacking district ,while listening to Paula speak about her favorite products and why she has been able to succeed in this very competitive and sometimes saturated skincare market.
Her favorite products include RESIST Vitamin C Treatment for brown spots ($55), The Broad – Spectrum SPF 43 Sunscreen Spray ($25), Clinical K Treatment Cloths ($32), and The SUN 365 Self Tanning Concentrate ($18)
One of her newest and best selling products now is the Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster ($45). It works well on all skin types and visibly plumps skin with an infusion of a good dose of hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronic to diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
For people with acne prone skin or a problem with blackheads Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BPA Liquid ($26) contains 2 percent salicylic acid (BHA) and has a pH that allows it to unclog pores and keep breakouts and blackheads from happening. It is fragrance free so if you if have sensitive skin or allergies it has proven to improve skin’s tone and texture.
Paula’s belief that quality effective skincare should be attainable and affordable is a major key to her success and longevity in the beauty business.
We were sent home with a bag full of goodies to try for ourselves including a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to celebrate the occasion.

Restaurant Review: Marcha Cucina @marchacucinabar
Lively Spanish restaurants with great ambience and food are hard to come by in Manhattan where mixing cocktails, food, and fun is equally important so I’m happy to see that Marcha Cocina has opened it’s second outpost on the trendy lower east side at 111 Avenue C.
The restaurant has 38 seats and is focused on moderately priced meals with sharing in mind. The tapas menu is quite good and priced from $7 to $12 a plate. Our favorites were the very tasty baby chorizo, a savory spanish sausage sautéed in garlic, white whine and olive oil and the the Patatas Bravas, crispy potatoes topped with brava aioli.
The restaurant is known for their variety of flatbreads called “Cocas”. They offer wild mushroom, chorizo, and skirt steak ($13) which happened to be our favorites and are actually pretty substantial and very filling.
If your party is still hungry the entrees not to be missed are the Paella Con Langosta ($28), served with lobster, saffron valencia rice, shrimp, clams, mussels, and tomato escabeche and the Churasco (Skirt Steak)($24) served with demi, fondu, roasted potato and chimichuri sauce.
The cocktail menu is extensive and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable about mixing drinks to our liking. They even recommended a special hard to find Brugal rum, which quickly became a favorite.
Marcha Cocina is open 7 days a week from 3pm until 11pm Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Saturday nights. They are launching a new brunch menu shortly so stay tuned!

Rooftop Bar and Lounge: Up on 20 Hyatt Herald Square @HyattHS
Herald Square is known for its shopping, Madison Square Garden and flurry of activity, so it was a nice surprise to find a new boutique style Hyatt smack in the middle, but designed uniquely to give the visitor a tranquil and serene experience at the end of the day.
Up on 20 is the newly designed rooftop bar and lounge now open for the warm summer months. With unobstructed views of both the Empire State Building and The Freedom Tower it is the perfect place for both locals and visitors to come for cocktails and a meal.
The menu focuses on small bites and platters made to be shared as well as burgers and salads. We started out with spicy pork crackling which paired nicely with our first cocktail, The Rum Julep. We then tried the mini meatballs which were juicy and tasty and served with hoison and sesame glaze and baby leek. The shrimp ceviche with pineapple and chili was very fresh and perfect for a summer day snack.
The best part of the meal was the grilled beef burger with brie cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion jam complemented with killer truffle fries.
The bar/lounge is open for brunch, dinner and for cocktails daily.

Resort Review:Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort
Scottsdale, Arizona has been a haven for snowbirds for years escaping polar vortexes and blizzards with year round sunshine, beautiful days and cool crisp nights. In recent years it has become equally famous for world class resorts and golf courses, that are on par with some of the best in Florida and the Caribbean. A 4 hour flight into Phoenix and you are on your way to a fabulous family vacation, girlfriend getaway, or a golf weekend with the boys.
The Fairmont Princess is truly a 5 star family resort with every amenity you may desire. There are five pools, one for kids, two jacuzzis and a water park with slides that are actually big enough for adults to enjoy with their kids. The laid back casual ambience and the ultra friendly staff will attend to all your needs, whether you need a cocktail by the pool or need snacks brought to the many relaxation spots surrounding the property that are great for relaxing on a star filled evening.
Boden Fall 15 Preview #BodenAW15 @Bodenclothing
Editors this week got a sneak peak of the Boden collection for Fall/ Winter 15 and the collection is hugely inspired by the 60’s trend with feminine florals, high waists and embellished shoes. We love the sparkly booties and maryjanes! The kids collection is adorable as well with great pieces for layering in many pops of color.
Lovecraft Restaurant and Bar NYC
EXKI Midtown NYC
Last year a brand new casual eatery arrived in NYC all the way from Belgium. Exki was founded by three friends in 2001 and has since opened 78 restaurants across Europe, and in 2014 arrived on our shores and most recently opened the 76 Madison and 28th st. location, with 20 more planned in the metro area.
The premise is very simple at Exki, and that is to deliver fresh, seasonal, vegetable driven recipes, at great prices, while using green energy and reinforcing the importance of sustainability and giving back.
For Spring/Summer 2015 Exki added 11 new dishes , highlighting five that utilize Exki ‘s signature low fat yet tasty Vegetable Emulsions. Some of the favorite dishes include Tofu Thai, an entrée salad of roasted local organic tofu, ginger miso emulsion, rice vermicelli, spinach, romaine, carrots, daikon, cilantro, basil and peanuts and for meat lovers the B.F.T, roast beef, tomato fennel horseradish emulsion, arugula, radish and parmesan on a baguette.
New this spring is the variety of beverage options including five variations of green tea smoothies, each combined with seasonal fruits and blended to maximize flavor and freshness. My favorite was the Passion Tea with strawberries, mint, and green tea.

Restaurant Review: Juniper Bar @JuniperNYC
Juniper Bar is located in the heart of midtown, a block away from Macys Herald Square and Madison Square Garden, making it a perfect for cocktails and a meal after a day of shopping or an event at the Garden.
The large space is sleek and modern with flat screen TV’s, a dj booth, and a private space downstairs that can be rented out for private parties.
This casual restaurant has a wide variety of cocktails, many focused on gin. My favorite was the Strawberry Collins and my dining companion loved the Mango Margarita which used Patron Tequila, Mango Puree, and Cointreau.
The Asian American fusion menu was inventive and tasty. We had the seafood spring rolls, which were crispy fried rolls filled with lobster, shrimp and scallops served with a citrus dipping sauce. Next we had the Vietnamese Chicken Wings. They were sweet and spicy and a nicely spiced alternative to traditional wings served in a bar. The steak tacos were favorites as far as appetizers go. We love skirt steak and are picky about it’s preparation. The tacos are filled with steak, peppers, onions, guacamole, and chimichuri sauce.
Juniper serves wonderful entrees in addition to their small plates with a focus on a large variety of burgers, wraps, and sandwiches. The Lobster Club is delicious with fresh Maine lobster, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, lemon aioli, served on toasted multi grain bread. Burger favorites are the Fire Breathing Burger filled with ghost peppers, pepper jack cheese and sriracha aioli. This burger is for the lover of a spicy addition to a meal! The Big Blue is the ultimate burger served with cheddar cheese, bacon, homemade blue cheese dressing, and topped with tempura onion rings.
Our dining neighbors raved about the Pan Roasted Chicken with Fingerling potatoes and The Bourbon Steak with sweet potato mash and sautéed green beans. We will make sure to try them next time.
