Last week the 22nd annual Urban Tech Gala was held at Gustavinos in NYC. The Urban Tech Center is a non-profit organization started by Pat Bransford over two decades ago. It’s primary focus is to build social and life skills, improve academic skills, financial, and digital literacy skills for the underserved youth in urban areas in New York City. It has since expanded to other urban areas nationwide. The Youth Leadership Academy(YLA) courses develop students fundamental skills for life effectiveness. Urban Tech’s “Adopt A School” program focuses on Financial Network Program, Dignity for All, STEM, and Social Justice & Community Leadership.
The Gala was co-hosted by actor, director, and screenwriter Ted Lange and TV Host, reporter and humanitarian Alicia Quarles.
This year’s honorees were Vicky Fuller, Chief Investment officer at New York’s State Common Retirement Fund, Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama’s Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and Don Lowery, Senior Vice President Community Engagement at Nielsen.
The Gala also honored special guest Hannah Bronfman. Hannah is a DJ, health and wellness enthusiast and founder of HBFIT.com, a unique online community for people who are passionate about health, beauty, fitness, wellness, travel, music, and travel. Hannah is also a fashionista and an “It Girl”. The award was presented to her by her mother Sherry Bronfman, a long time supporter of The Urban Tech Center.

Review: Ziip Nano Current Device; A Sleek New Device that promises to conquer breakouts and wrinkles @ziipbeauty
The last few weeks I had the chance to review one of the newest and most hi- tech beauty devices out on the market today. The Ziip Nano Current Device was developed by Melanie Simon an electrical esthetician. The device looks like a super fancy computer mouse that with the aid of the app through your iPhone/ipad offers up 6 different treatments “electrical cocktails” depending on your skin goals.
The technology behind Ziip is that it sends tiny electrical wavelengths deep below the surface of the skin and depending on the setting will deliver different results. When set on low it breaks down dirt and bacteria in the skin to help get rid of acne. My favorite treatment was the “vitaleyes”. The 2 to 4 minute treatment, I did the 4, really helps with dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines.
For sensitive skin and for 1st time users the “sensitive energize” treatment is a gentle 12 minute ant- aging treatment. For men who don’t want to spend much time on their face, the 2 minute treatment, twice a week is perfect to help reduce dark circles, fine lines and tighten pores.
The first step is to prepare the face for treatment. The Golden Conductive Gel Treatment, which feels like petroleum jelly, has to be applied liberally before you glide the Ziip device over your face and neck. Time depends on treatment selected. It is recommended to use the Ziip 1 to 3 times a week and the results are cumulative.

CES Las Vegas is the largest electronics expo in North America. Over 3000 exhibitors showcase their newest and greatest inventions in hi-tech gadgets ranging from headphones, fitness trackers, smartwatches, to medical tracking, drone technology and more.
Samsung led the way with the intro of the 4K Ultra high def TV, while Dish introduced the slingbox with a $20 a month subscription service that may finally get rid of the need for cable. Taiwan-based HTC yesterday unveiled its newest smartphone with high-resolution cameras on both sides to appeal to people who take “selfie” pictures. The HTC Desire Eye, unveiled at a New York event, includes 13-megapixel cameras on both the front and back. “Desire Eye is fully equipped for those who love to take great photos, videos and selfies,” an HTC statement said. The new phone will be sold in the United States through AT&T. HTC also launched an uniquely shaped camera called Re, which departs from the box shape, designed instead with a round periscope-like appearance, which can fit in one’s hand and can be used with only one hand. A Re app is available on Google play store and Apple ITunes as well. HTC said the camera’s design featured a sensor which automatically activated the device whenever it was picked up, eliminating the need for a power button. HTC said it plans to introduce live streaming with the camera through Google-owned YouTube in the near future. |
