Hotel Review: Sublime Samana Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic @SublimeSamana

Located in the Northeastern part of the Dominican Republic the town of  Samana remains an unspoiled gem that is not yet dominated by all- inclusive chains and it’s tourism focuses on luxury and eco-tourism. January through March, Samana is primarily known for it’s whale watching with thousands of Humpback whales migrating annually from the cold Atlantic Ocean to the warm waters of the Caribbean.

Sublime Samana is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and with only 26 Suites and Casitas the goal is to provide guests with a luxury experience in a warm and friendly setting where the staff knows the guests by first name. The 18 suites are spacious with terraces and full kitchens with top of the line appliances and are large enough to entertain families. The eight 2 and 3 bedroom casitas are huge and perfect for girlfriend getaways, families, and multi-generational travel. One even has a rooftop jacuzzi on the massive outdoor deck.

The dining options at Sublime Samana focus on fresh seafood and local produce picked and purchased same day from local farms and the fish market. The Bistro is led by Chef Christian Baez who grills the fish, vegetables, and infuses local foods like tostones and ceviche into the daily menu. Dining is available beachside “La Palapa” or in a more elegant dining area with a pool side view. The bars offer a variety of specialty cocktails with a focus on local rums and beers. The bartenders make sure the cocktails are strong and do not disappoint!

The Tranquil Spa at Sublime is adorned with orchids and greenery and offers a variety of services including massages, facials, wraps and also a brand new authentic Temascal (Mexican Sauna). This sauna offers physical and mental healing powers leading back to the theory that coming back to mother earth and the maternal womb is where we come back to heal and be reborn. Treatments are available for singles as well as for couples. My treatment choice was the house favorite the “coconut whisper” which uses coconut products to bathe, moisturizer, massage the face and body and offers a fresh coconut, in the shell, drink when done to complete the service.

Sublime Samana caters to singles, couples, families, and multi-generational travel and strikes a unique balance between eco-tourism and luxury travel. A perfect location for a destination wedding or honeymoon the resort has something special for everyone.
